Hey, Dr. Whitlock here from Whitlock Orthodontics in Springdale and Fort Smith, AR. I have a couple of questions for you:
- Can you breathe through your nose?
- Are you a mouth breather?
- Do you feel like you need a nap sometimes during the day?
- Anybody ever tell you that you snore, or that you toss and turn at night?
- What about your child?
- Do they toss and turn?
- Can you hear them breathing?
You may be asking why an orthodontist is asking these questions? Well, we’re the perfect specialty to really be evaluating those. We’re always taking images and looking at them to evaluate your teeth and the jaw, but it also allows us also to look at your sinuses and your nasal passages. We can also look at your airway, your soft palate, where your tonsils and adenoids are. And we can even look at the total volume of your airway.
So we are kind of the perfect specialty because we’re already looking at the bones in those areas that surround your airway. We know, too, that sleep-disordered breathing and obstructive sleep apnea have become major health problems, and many of us probably have friends or family that are suffering from some of this. So it’s really important to me. It’s so important, in fact, that we now have a full-time myofunctional therapist, Kiley, who helps us with our patients, Her focus is on trying to get good nasal breathing, then she can work on getting some good lip and tongue balance that will help you maintain your health, but also maintain your teeth and your gorgeous smile.
So if you or any of your friends and family have any of the symptoms that I mentioned earlier, please give us a call or have them call us to schedule a free consultation and we’ll be glad to take a look, take a scan, review it witty you, ask you a few questions and see if there’s anything we can do to help you be healthier and also give you an award-winning smile.
